As Center Director, Dr. Ratwani oversees all activities of the Center and leads strategy development and execution. He is also an assistant professor of emergency medicine at Georgetown University. He holds a master’s and PhD in psychology, with a focus on human factors, from George Mason University. He was a National Research Council postdoctoral fellow at the Naval Research Laboratory where he received the Alan Berman publication award.
Dr. Ratwani has extensive experience planning, managing and executing large-scale research programs. In addition, he has made major contributions to healthcare policy, with a focus on health information technology usability and safety. His research areas of interest include health information technology, data analytics and visualization, and clinician cognitive performance (e.g. perception of diagnostic images, interruptions etc.).
His work has been sponsored by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Office of the National Coordinator (ONC), the American Medication Association (AMA) as well by several foundations. He has published over fifty journal articles, testified in front of the U.S. Senate, and has given several widely attended speeches and presentations.
