Deliya Wesley, PhD
Senior Health Equities Research Scientist
Deliya Banda Wesley, PhD, is a senior health equities research scientist with the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare and the scientific director of health equity research at the MedStar Health Research Institute. She is also an assistant professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine under the biomedical scholar track. Deliya has expertise in health disparities focusing on patient-level factors that impact communication and influence health decision-making. Her research examines the cultural and contextual factors impacting how racial/ethnic minorities access and utilize health services. Specifically, her work examines the role of patient-facing technology, and how underserved populations interact with and access these technologies to influence health outcomes. Deliya is actively funded by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality on multiple grants and contracts focused on adapting patient-facing health IT to address the unique needs of diverse populations, especially those with low to limited literacy and health literacy. She holds an MPH in epidemiology from The George Washington University School of Public Health and a PhD in behavioral and community health from the University of Maryland School of Public Health. In her free time, Deliya enjoys cooking and trying new recipes with her family.
