Clinical Human Factors Specialist
Chris is a clinical human factors specialist with the MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare. He provides unique expertise in nursing practice and patient safety for a variety of projects and grants. His professional expertise is in the integration of medical technology within facilities, the assessment of best practice for medical staff, and user experience design of both web and mobile applications. Recent projects include the analysis of patient safety events and development of safety guidelines for a major hospital system, the review of participant performance through trauma team gamification, and the investigation of EHR interaction and knowledge sharing through the lens of social media. Chris holds a Master of Science in human computer interaction from the University of Maryland, College Park and a Master of Science in nursing from the University of Maryland School of Nursing. He is also a recipient of the Laurence B. Heilprin award for his paper on health inequities within the homeless population from the University of Maryland. He is a practicing nurse in the field of emergency medicine and enjoys traveling, rock climbing, and designing 3D printing projects.
